How Chef.nyc collects, uses and protects your personal data.
Last updated October 17, 2026
What we collect
Chef.nyc is operated by Chef at Home Inc., 418 Broadway, Ste N, Albany, NY 12207, United States, which is responsible for the personal data described here and can be reached at [email protected] or by mail at that address. We collect the information you give us when you create an account, submit an event request, apply as a chef, or contact support: your name, email address, phone number, event details (date, address, guest count, dietary notes), and any messages or photos you share on the platform.
How we use it
We use your data to run the marketplace: matching your event request with chefs in your area, exchanging proposals and messages, sending the notifications you opted into, and improving the service. We never sell your personal data.
Who can see it
Chefs see the details of event requests in their area (never your contact details before a booking is confirmed). Guests see chef profiles as published. Our staff can access data where needed for support.
Payments & analytics
Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment service provider: your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers, and we share with Stripe only what is needed to process your payment. Website analytics run on Pageviews Analytics, a privacy-friendly service that gives us aggregated usage statistics.
Data retention & your rights
You can export a copy of your data or delete your account at any time from your account settings. On deletion, your personal data is anonymized; records we must keep for legal reasons are retained only as long as required. For any privacy question, contact [email protected].
Chef identity verification
Chefs who apply to cook via Chef.nyc complete an identity check: a scan of an identity document, a selfie with a liveness and face-match check, and screening against sanctions lists. This check is performed by our identity verification provider Didit, which processes the document and selfie solely to verify identity. Chef.nyc stores only the result of the check, never your document images or biometric data.
Automatic translation
Texts written by chefs on their public profiles (such as the introduction and tagline) may be translated automatically into the language you are browsing in. Before translation, we remove personal data such as email addresses, phone numbers and street addresses from the text. The remaining text is processed by our AI provider Anthropic (Claude) solely to produce the translation and is not used to train AI models. Translations are always marked as automatic and the original text remains available on the page.
Cookies
We use cookies that are strictly necessary for login sessions and security. We also store a cookie with your device time zone, which we use only to show the cities nearest to you first. We do not use advertising cookies. Our website analytics (Pageviews) are cookie-free and anonymized.
